Sanahin

The name of Sanahin Monastery literally translates as “this is older than the other,” probably representing the fact that it is an older monastery than Haghpat Monastery. Sanahin Monastery (Armenian: Սանահին) is one of the most important and culturally rich monastic complexes in Armenia, and, along with nearby Haghpat Monastery, is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its outstanding medieval Armenian architecture and its role in preserving Armenian learning, theology, and identity.
