Noravank Monastery is one of Armenia’s most photogenic medieval sites, famous for its reddish cliffs and intricate stone carvings. The monastery is located in a canyon in the rural community of Areni, near the town of Yeghegnadzor, 122 km from Yerevan. Noravank was the residence of the Orbelian princes in the early 13th century. There are many khachkars (cross stones) on the complex, including those by the famous architect and sculptor Momik, distinguished by their high artistic merit.
